As the title of this concert suggests, “Tradition in Motion” is about preserving the traditional dances and music of Korea while incorporating contemporary techniques.
The program will consist of the Gayageum Ensemble, Ah-jaeng, Yangeum and 25 stringed Gayageum. Also, Yoo Hiza Gayageum Sanjo that Hiza Yoo composed using the traditional rhythmic patterns such as Jinyangjo, Joongmori, Gutgeori, Jajinmori & Hwimori.
The Korean dances include Samosae, Prayer for Unification, Jindo Buk Chum and the exciting drum dance, Samgomoo. Also featured in the program will be “Now You Come To Be Mine” and “Pacific Seagull”, an original song composed by Master Yoo with the Gayageum, Tenor & Flute.
About Hiza Yoo Korean Dance Institute
Mrs. Yoo’s introduction to traditional Korean dance began as a child in Korea where she studied under the nationally renowned Korean dance instructor, Mrs. Sun Young Kang. Her formal education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Music from the Seoul National University, and a MA in Music Composition from California State University, Northridge. Currently, among her many activities, she is the Director of Hiza Yoo’s Korean Music & Dance Institute, and Music Director of World Rhythms, a performing folk dance and music troupe. In 2011, she released an album of her own compositions for the Gayageum, a Korean string instrument.
