[That Moment]
Liberation Day Open Concert in the U.S.
An “Open Concert” in celebration of Liberation Day was held at the Clayton Performing Arts Center in Atlanta. It was like a small oasis amidst the heat of midsummer and the noise of the city. The concert featured the Atlanta Philharmonic, conducted by Park Min, and the Atlanta Children’s Choir, directed by Cheon Young-jun.
On stage, a large crescent moon-shaped screen was illuminated, with a crescent moon shining like starlight drawn behind the stage. The gentle melodies of traditional Korean children’s songs played by the orchestra, combined with the pure voices of the children’s choir, warmly embraced the audience.
What made the concert particularly special was a touching scene that unfolded in one corner of the audience. Many immigrants had gathered there, and some were moved to tears or hummed along with the songs, momentarily returning to their childhood. For these immigrants, the sadness and stress they had endured while building a new life in a foreign land were, for that moment, forgotten.
As the orchestra’s music and the children’s choir’s voices resonated more deeply, the immigrants had a chance to express their emotions. They looked at one another, sharing both their longing for their homeland and their hope for a new life through song. The concert was not just a performance for them; it was a time for healing and comfort.
The performance by the children’s choir and the orchestra, under the direction of Park Min and Cheon Young-jun, went beyond simple musical notes. It became a moment where the special emotions and joys of immigrants were shared. That night, under the Atlanta sky, their voices resonated softly and warmly like the crescent moon, and in their hearts, a deeper sense of solidarity as Koreans took root.

광복절 미국 열린 음악회
애틀랜타의 크레이톤 퍼포밍 아츠 센타에서 광복절기념 “열린음악회”가 열렸다. 한여름의 더위와 도시의 소음 속에서 작은 오아시스 같은 장소였다. 박민이 지휘하는 애틀랜타 필~과 천영준이 지도한 애틀랜타 소년 소녀 합창단이 함께하는 공연이었다.
무대 위에서 반달 모양의 큰 스크린이 조명 속에 드리워졌고, 무대 뒤에는 별빛처럼 빛나는 반달이 그려졌다. 오케스트라의 서서히 울려 퍼지는 우리민족의 동요선율과 어린이합창단의 맑은 목소리가 어우러지며, 관객들의 마음을 따뜻하게 감쌌다.
그 공연의 특별한 점은 관객석의 한 구석에서 일어난 감동적인 장면이었다. 많은 이민자들이 그곳에 모여 있었고, 그들 중 일부는 음악의 흐름에 맞춰 눈물을 글썽이거나 ,동심으로 돌아가 노래를 흥얼거리고 있었다. 그들의 고향을 떠나 새로운 삶을 살아가며 겪었던 슬픔과 스트레스가 이 순간만큼은 잊음의 순간이었다.
무대 위의 오케스트라 음악과 어린이합창단의 목소리가 더욱 가슴 깊숙이 스며들며, 이민자들은 스스로의 감정을 표현할 기회를 얻었다. 그들은 서로를 바라보며 고향에 대한 그리움과 새로운 삶에 대한 희망을 노래로 나누었다. 음악회는 단순한 공연이 아니라, 그들에게는 치유의 시간, 위로의 시간이었다
박민과 천영준의 어린이 합창단과 오케스트라의 연주는 단순한 음률을 넘어 사람들의 마음속 깊은 곳에 있는 이민자의 특별한과 기쁨을 함께 나누는 순간이 되었다. 그날 밤, 애틀랜타의 하늘 아래에서 그들의 목소리는 반달처럼 부드럽고 따뜻하게 울려 퍼졌고, 그들의 마음속에는 한층 깊은 한국인의 연대감이 자리잡았다.
