Dongsuk graduated National Classical Music School for 6 years full scholarship provided by Korean government. He majored Kayagum under the Master Kim, Young Yoon for court music and later he took lessons for folk music from Master Sung keum ryun and Hwang Byung-gi. He also learned court dance from Master Kim, Bonham and folk dance from Kim Baikbong for 6 years. He graduated Seoul National University in 1968 and majored music theory and composition with four years full scholarship. In 1970, he came to UCLA to pursue his study and had MA from Hope University and PhD from CS University.He is founder of Korean classical Music institute in America and Korean Classical Music and Dance Company. He started teach at UCLA from 1997 till 2013 and several private colleges. He was president of Southern California Artist Association and Seoul National University Alumni Association. He and his groups have performed at prestigious venues such as the New York Metropolitan Opera House, the Los Angeles Music Center, the White House, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, the Hollywood Bowl, the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival, and the 1988 Seoul Olympic Arts Center and 9 times in Pyong Yang North Korea. He has also performed extensively and given workshops through the Los Angeles Unified Schools District’s Intercultural Awareness Program, the Music Center on Tour Program, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, San Diego Young Audiences, and Santa Barbara Children’s Creative Project, San Jose Young Audiences, and the Performing Tree. Kim has had his own radio program for over 20 years through the Radio Korea Broadcasting system.
