A reputed orchestra under Lee sung ju
Joy of Strings is a Korean ensemble led by an acclaimed violinist Lee sung ju. Already at 9 years old, Lee performed with the Seoul Philharmonic, and today she teaches at the Korean National University of Arts. Her orchestra Joy of Strings brings classical music to a broader public, specializing in the repertoire of Austrian composers such as Haydn. The ensemble has performed all over the world. In Europe, they were already seen in Vienna, in the Municipal Hall of Prague, at the Eisenstadt Haydn Festival, but also in De Singel in Antwerp, in 2006.
A programme of Haydn, conducted by Dirk Verelst
On Saturday 6th September 2014, Joy of Strings returns to Belgium to perform a carefully selected programme by Haydn at the Korean Cultural Center. The show will be conducted by a Belgian musician, Dirk Verelst, who studied in Antwerp and Geneva, and now works at the Conservatories of Antwerp and Maastricht. He has also been a guest professor at the International University of Arts in Korea and the Xinghai Conservatory of Guangzhou in China. Furthermore, he worked for numerous orchestras, such as the Flanders Philharmonic, and the Roby Lakatos Orchestra. He also played in several live television shows and DVD productions across Europe.
